A Poem/Letter for Father’s Day

My father, Russell Lueck

Dear Dad,

You showed me selfless and unconditional love
by adopting me, forgiving my mistakes,
encouraging me to pursue my passions,
and giving me the best “bear hugs” ever.

You demonstrated strength by adapting to your challenges,
like holding yourself up while walking with crutches.
Even though I’m sure it was painful at times,
you always kept one foot in front of the other.

You encouraged me to do the same in school,
despite the frustration that my learning challenges caused me.
You helped me with my homework,
even though history and reading were nightmares.

You believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself.

You never made me feel like I was “less than” anybody else.
But you humbled me by reminding me that everyone is unique.

You showed me what it meant to be hardworking and faithful
by supporting Mom and the rest of the family through thick and thin.
You always worked hard, but you still enjoyed quality time with us.
You went on family vacations to…
