A Poem

Recently, I was thinking about how to describe anxiety and depression in a poem. I hope this makes people who struggle with those conditions feel less alone. However, if the topic of mental illness triggers you, please read with discretion.

Stress
Heavy
Relentless
Anxiety
It’s all-consuming;
It makes your heart race fast.
There is no time to react.
All of your triggers hit at once.
Everything goes dark; there’s no more sun.
Anxiety mutates into despair.
You start to wonder what you’re doing here.
Depression tells you to isolate.
The future appears desolate.
But this is just how it seems.
Life will improve; you’ll see.
You are not alone.
There is hope.
There’s light.
Life
