Crossing Paths (Part 2)
Chapters 4 and 5 of a Christian Romance Novel
Chapter 4: Recovery
The next morning, Ivan woke up on his couch in his clothes from the day before. His eyes were puffy from crying all night. He took a quick shower and sprayed his favorite cologne. Then he put on a pair of khaki shorts with a blue t-shirt.
When his phone rang, Shannon texted him. She was already at the hospital. Early riser, he thought. It was only 7 a.m. on a Saturday. The hospital had just opened. On his way there, Ivan stopped at the store to pick up sugar-free iced tea and a huge pack of gum for Natalie.
When he got to the hospital room, he found Natalie and Shannon talking and laughing. Despite everything that happened the night before, Natalie didn’t lose her glow. Ivan loved that about her. God knew he needed more of that positivity in his life.
“Hey, Ivan!” Natalie said.
“Hey! Looks like someone’s feeling better. I bought a few things for you.”
Natalie blushed, and her smile grew bigger. “Thank you!”
Shannon looked at both of them and mouthed something to Natalie. Ivan just ignored it as Shannon left the room.
“How are you feeling?”
“Much better, thanks to you.”
“Nah, it’s your strong spirit that got you through it,” Ivan said. “Listen, I’m sorry I wasn’t there to break your fall.”
