Back in December, Nancy Oglesby posted a drabble challenge. Every day, she provides writers with a random word for the theme of their stories. A drabble is a 100-word fiction story. Today’s word of the day is…young.

This time, I am attempting to write 3 Drabbles. Here we go!

When You’re Older

My name’s Lizzie. I’m 6 years old. I have a sister named Maya. She’s 11!

Me and Maya used to do everything together! We went to the park, went sledding, played hide and seek, and ate pizza at Chuck E. Cheese! We played Barbie together, too.

But now, Maya only wants to play with the big kids. Now she says she’s “too old” to play Barbies. I’m “too young” to wear makeup like she does!

Mommy says Maya’s going through “changes.” She says I’ll understand when I’m older. She also says one day, me and Maya will be best friends.

My Brother’s an Alien

“Hey, Gavin! This is your brother named Brian,” Mom said.

Brian didn’t have hair or a neck. He also drooled a lot.

“Mommy, he’s an alien!”

“No, silly!” Mom laughed. “He’s a baby, just like you were.”
