With dreamy vibes and relatable lyrics, Jacks and Atoms take indie music to new heights. Their songs focus on the meaning of life, identity issues, nostalgia, and self-improvement.

The native Chicago duo consists of singer, songwriter, and guitarist Daven Masulis and drummer Dan Orlowski. They have a fascinating tale about how they met in 2010.

The Right Place at the Right Time

“I was playing in another band with a drummer,” Daven said. “We were desperately looking for a bass player. I went to this open mic [at Borders] and met Aaron Wagner, who introduced me to Dan.”

“I didn’t plan on playing anything at the open mic,” Dan stated. “I just went to hang out and see who was playing. Daven and his drummer were doing a couple of their songs. Aaron, in the spur of the moment, wanted to get up and do a Chili Peppers song with me. Since I didn’t have a guitar, I went up to Daven and said, ‘Hey, I know we just met right now. But would you mind if I borrow your guitar to do a song with my buddy Aaron?’”

Daven let Dan borrow his guitar, and they started talking after the event. Dan bought Daven’s CD, but their connection didn’t…
