Pre-Work Chilling

A poem before a busy workday

It’s 2:11 before a 2:30 shift,
19 minutes of tuning into my music.
when I keep the world at a distance
just for a little bit.

And even just a few minutes
makes a big difference.
I’m just chilling,
pre-work chilling.

Listening to Noah Kahan’s soothing voice
reminds me that it’s possible to
soothe my anxiety.
Writing helps to reframe my thoughts.

And even if it’s just for a little bit,
this time makes a big difference.
I’m just chilling,
pre-work chilling.

And now it’s 2:15.
Just 15 minutes until an 8-hour shift.
But right now, the music stays on
while the world remains at a distance.

Even just a few minutes
makes a big difference.
I’m just chilling,
pre-work chilling.
