Zapped by Summer

I stepped outside my front door
and stood on the porch.
Then a heat wave dizzied my mind
and knocked me back inside
before I closed the door.

The cold air in my dark house
protects me from the sun’s heat now.
The air remains consistent,
just the way I like it.
I think I’ll stay in my house.

I’m looking at the forecast;
it says the heat won’t last.
But it’s hard to trust
something that changes so much.
I can never trust the forecast.

But if the forecast is right for once,
maybe tonight, I’ll go out and have fun.
Instead of feeling heavy, weak, and dizzy,
the night’s cool relief will free me.
Maybe the forecast will be right for once.

Maybe tomorrow, there will be a nice breeze
to cool down the sun’s scorching heat.
Maybe nature will reduce the humidity,
which will help us escape misery.
Maybe we’ll be blessed with a nice breeze.
